“Stellaria” – Mini Handcrafted Journal

Stellaria is a handmade upcycled materials journal, measuring about 4″ x 3”, and would be a great book to use as a small art and/or writing journal, travel herbarium, glue book, commonplace book, or a mini junk journal!

It would also make a great idea book, gratitude journal, or a list book that can be slipped into your purse, pocket, or back pack for daily use.

The cover of this handmade pocket journal is made from a scrap of corrugated cardboard and features a tattered silk ribbon tie. It is rustic and looks great as is or could be embellished with a pressed plant, a collaged imaged, or a metal trinket to make it even more special and unique to you.

This journal contains two book marks. One is secured in the interior of the book, made with a coordinating strip of silk fabric and has a hangtag made from a recycled tea bag label that has been collaged with a scrap of cotton fabric and a bistort sprig. On the back is the quote “I never set out to be weird. It was always other people who called me weird,” by Frank Zappa. The tea tag is sewn to the ribbon book mark using the tea bag string and is embellished with two gemstone chips.

The second book mark is housed in a pocket on the inner cover, collaged with scraps of images and adorned with some silk fabric scraps.

This blank art journal contains about 80 pages of various sizes and types of paper, (including a couple art papers)—vintage and newer; some of which are thick enough handle some mixed media art work. Paper includes kraft paper, watercolor paper, vintage book and music paper, and vellum paper.

This small pocket journal contains mostly neutral pages, along with colored vintage book pages with some color.

Some pages have been stained and dyed with plant dyes such as walnut dye.

Most book pages containing text have been gessoed or painted over with acrylic paint and are ready to hold a variety of media, including light watercolor.

A few pages may still contain text that you can collage over, create mixed media on top of, or can block out with your own acrylic paint color of choice to create a blank palette.

There are two pockets in this journal which can be used to stash feathers, business cards, notes, receipts, change, or a sprig of your favorite plant found on a walk.

The journal has been hand stitched together with waxed thread and it has an easy to tie and untie silk ribbon closure.

This mini journal would also be a great children’s journal as it is the perfect size for small hands.
