About Course

What is an herbarium?

Why would you want one?

How can it be used?

What is the history of herbaria?

In this fun-filled 14 day class you (and your kids if you want it to be a family adventure) will be able to build your own family herbarium that you can continue to collect and add to over the years.

You will be given daily prompts to gather your materials, collect your specimens and assemble your herbariums through guided words and an occasional video tutorial in this 14 day timed course.

This class is packed with unique ideas on how to affordably make an herbarium. From using an old book to create a plant press to using an old box to create the vessel for your herbarium, you and your kids will have a blast putting together your herbarium.

At the end of the class, on Saturday, May 23, there will be a celebration Zoom party where you can show off your creations, ask questions, share your wins, and chat with other families who are also creating their own herbarium.

This is a family friendly class!

Please note, you can only sign up for this class up until the day it starts, May 6, 2026. After that, enrollment will be closed until the next round, which will be in the Summer 2026. Once you are enrolled in the class, you’ll receive a class guide that gives you the complete two week course materials so that you can work it at your own pace. And you’ll be able to access your class any time after enrollment, even if you choose to start it later.

All Herbarium Class Alumni will be able to attend the live events each time the course is re-opened.

Okay! We are getting closer to mounting our specimens but let’s give them a few more days to fully dry. While we wait, let’s discuss some more logistics about assembling and organizing.

I loved this course and took it for myself--an adult woman! I've been saving and pressing plants and information and have a few books on herbaria but was unsure about how I wanted to proceed. I saw the course advertised and signed up. Kristine is a great teacher who provides very clear lessons, both written and some video. The resources and links she provides are all useful and interesting.

I'm going to make an herbarium for the area of WV where I live and also will be able to do "mini" herbaria with kids and family who visit.

Thanks for a well done class and resource!
